Hopscotch Gallery - Unknown Atmospheres

sound design, installation

Silhouetted figures stand within a red and blue LED grid installation — Unknown Atmospheres by Seth Nehil and Parallel Studio at Hopscotch Gallery

A room-sized immersive installation of LED arrays and multichannel audio. A five-minute looping composition of intense electronic textures in precise synchrony with animated geometric forms. A mirrored rear wall reflects and recedes as flickering, flashing, and pulsing shapes dance within a surround-sound environment. Six short scenes in a sequence of hard cuts — each a new landscape of sound and form. Visitors may experience the piece from outside or enter and wander among the matrix.

Installed at Hopscotch Portland since June 2023, Hopscotch San Antonio since February 2024, and opening at Hopscotch Los Angeles in Fall 2026. Portland: ~7,000 LED bulbs, 4.1 channel sound — San Antonio: ~12,000 LEDs, 4.1 channel sound — Los Angeles: ~25,000 LEDs, 6.2 channel sound.

Created in collaboration with Parallel Studio, light programming by Jesse Mejia. Commissioned by Hopscotch Gallery.
